Write for us
We welcome clear, original contributions that help readers notice, understand or think differently about art and visual culture in the American West. A strong piece starts with a focused question and gives readers a reason to stay with it.
What we welcome
Pitch essays, explainers, close readings, art histories and accessible introductions to artists, materials or visual traditions. We are especially interested in specific subjects with room for nuance, rather than broad surveys or promotional profiles.
What makes a good pitch
Send a short summary of the central idea, why it suits Western Arts Spotlight, the likely shape of the piece and any relevant sources or images. Tell us whether the work has been published elsewhere. We value plain language, careful distinctions between fact and interpretation, and an original point of view.
How to submit
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please pitch before sending a full draft. A proposal is not a promise of publication, and any commissioned terms would be agreed before work begins.
Art rewards a closer look
We bring context to Western art without reducing a work to its scenery. Materials, history and the artist's choices all matter.
